Education in english

The Faculty educates students in the full-time, two-steps course, that is:

  • BSc Eng course (seven semesters)
  • MSc Eng course (three semesters).

The education of students is adapted to the current needs of the labour market.

A graduate of Geodesy and Cartography is prepared to manage complex works in geodesy and cartography and in real estate management, and also to undertake creative activities in these fields. His education is based upon exact sciences (mathematics, physics) and practical knowledge of computer science. Specific features of such a graduate cover:

  • an ability of planning and performing measurements and observations by means of specialist measurement instrumentation and modern techniques and methods;
  • an ability of evaluation, analysis and processing of the results of observations, making use of appropriate computations, mathematical statistics and computer equip-ment;
  • an ability of clear presentation of results of observations and analyses in a synthetic way, especially, in the form of maps, drawings, plans, diagrams and spatial models

Graduates from Geodesy and Cartography find jobs in surveying enterprises and in cartography, at the divisions of surveying and land management of the civil service and local administration offices, design offices, private companies, research units, university and secondary schools. The status of the land surveyor's profession has been restored. Recently, this profession has been highly esteemed again.

The study area of Geospatial Informatics represents a comprehensive approach to basic aspects of IT. Due to the technologies of processing data, new possibilities appear in the area of understanding the algorithms and structures of data and methods of their implementation, methods of processing big data with the application of methods of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), methods of representing and modelling of 3D data. The studying consider world’s and European trends in modern module-project teaching with the application of spatial information, links between natural sciences and informatics, as well as easiness in getting large amount of measurement data with simultaneous moving towards analysis and processing big data. Skills in IT are also developed, as competence facilitating finding jobs and professional development.

The graduates of this specialization can be employed in companies dealing with information technologies, geoinformation, geodesy and cartography, consulting companies, companies implementing smart solutions: Smart City, Smart Building. The can also work in corporations with units of advanced 3D geostatistical analyses.

Students of Environmental Enginering receive broad knowledge of basic subjects (mathematics, chemistry, biology and ecology). Besides, they learn about the main elements of the environment and the mechanisms of disturbances in its operation, technical sources affecting the environment while studying major subjects (pedology, hydrology, hydrogeology, physics of atmosphere, environmental chemistry and microbiology). They gain elementary knowledge of the environmental protection law, economics, organisation and management. The attained knowledge enables an evaluation and forecasting of the effects upon the environment as well as programming of the biological and technical ways of preventing and rehabilitation of the environment to be carried out. Due to the appropriate course of computer science, a graduate from Environmental Engineering is prepared to make fluent use of data processing techniques.

The gradautes from Environmental Engineering are employed in civil service and local administration offices, industrial plants, design offices, research institutes, university and secondary schools and private consulting agencies. Thy are employed in civil service and local administration offices, industrial plants, design offices, research institutes, university and secondary schools and private consulting agencies.

The Master's degree program in Remote Sensing and Geo Informatics focuses on the application of modern remote sensing and geoinformatics technologies in spatial data analysis, which are crucial for the rapidly developing information-based economy. The interdisciplinary curriculum of the program responds to the growing demand for professionals capable of utilizing remotely acquired data and advanced image processing techniques for the analysis and monitoring of our planet.

The MSc Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics programme opens up a variety of employment opportunities in industries and specialities such as crisis management, environmental protection, urban planning,geoscience research, urbanisation, precision agriculture, renewable and traditional energy, transport and many more. Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge and skills of geospatial data science to solve real-world problems and make deeply researched decisions.
